Which rain suit should you take to wear over your riding gear?
Finntrail off-road rain gear is a membrane layer you pull on over your own riding gear when the heavens open. There are two groups here: RIDER suits made for riding, and light jackets and trousers that pack into a backpack. For an enduro rider RIDER 3475 is usually the best fit: two pieces, a 2.5-layer HARD-TEX membrane and RIPSTOP fabric.

Who they are for
- •An enduro or motorcycle trip when rain catches you halfway: RIDER 3475 and RIDER 2508 go straight on over your gear or protectors.
- •A long ride with a backpack: OUTDOOR 1309 and 1310, LIGHTSUIT 3504 and 4614 are light, pack down small and wait for their downpour.
- •Slow riding and work on the trail on a rainy day when you stand around a lot: THOR 3420 and 3421, whose four-layer membrane holds 17,000 mm.
- •Dark forest tracks: the OUTDOOR models have 3M reflectors so other riders can see you.
How to choose
The first question: will you wear the rain gear all day, or carry it as a spare? The second is the membrane margin: in this group from 12,000 mm (OUTDOOR, LIGHTSUIT) to 20,000 mm (EXCALIBUR, TOURNAMENT). SKYLIGHT 1301 has no membrane.

- •A hot, dry day. The membrane breathes, but riding hard in the sun you will still overheat; then choose a jacket or a jersey.
- •Impact protection. You pull the RIDER suit on over your protectors, but it does not protect against impact itself.
- •A downpour in the SKYLIGHT 1301 jacket. It has only a DWR coating, not a membrane, and protects against wind and light rain.
- •Standing in water for a long time. Rain trousers are not waders; water will get in over the top of your boots.

Does a RIDER suit fit over enduro protectors?
Yes, the Finntrail RIDER 3475 rain suit and RIDER 2508 overall are made to go on over your own riding gear and protectors. Choose the size by trying it on with the gear you ride in.
Two pieces or an overall for riding a motorcycle in the rain?
The RIDER 2508 overall has no gap at the waist, so water does not get in when you stand on the footrests. The two-piece RIDER 3475 is easier to put on at the roadside, and you can wear just the jacket when the rain is light.
Which rain set should I carry in my backpack as a spare?
The lightest are LIGHTSUIT 3504 with 4614 trousers and OUTDOOR 1309 with 1310 trousers: the membrane of both sets holds 12,000 mm, and they pack down small. OUTDOOR also has 3M reflectors.
How do I clean a rain suit after a muddy trail?
Rinse off the mud with water first, before it dries, then wash with a detergent for membrane clothing and hang to dry. When water no longer beads, renew the DWR coating; read more on our care page.
