What should you clean suede, leather and membrane boots with?

Mountval footwear cleaners remove mud and salt marks from suede, nubuck, leather and textiles, as well as from membrane boots. The range has two types: Mountval Shampoo 100 ml cleaning foam for the whole boot and Mountval Gel Cleaner 100 ml, a gel with a brush for individual stains. For the whole boot Shampoo is enough for most people, and after cleaning it is worth impregnating your boots.

How to choose, what they are not for, and FAQ

    What they are for

    • •Hiking, work and town boots after a muddy day outdoors.
    • •Suede and nubuck boots with leftover salt marks.
    • •Membrane footwear: both cleaners are made for boots with membranes.
    • •Before impregnation, because on dirt the impregnation forms unevenly.

    How to choose

Suitable for: suede, nubuck, natural and synthetic leather, textiles, membrane footwear; Shampoo also oiled leather. Not suitable for: patent leather unless the label allows it, and soaking the boots. Check the label and test in an inconspicuous spot: colourfastness, especially of brightly coloured suede and nubuck.

    What they are not for

    • •A cleaner does not impregnate: after cleaning, water repellency is restored by a footwear impregnation spray.
    • •Neither cleaner is suitable for patent leather unless the boot label allows it.
    • •Do not soak the boots: too much water damages glued seams and the inner lining.
    • •Do not dry them by a radiator or other heat source: heat can deform leather and glued seams.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I clean suede and nubuck?

Apply Mountval Shampoo foam with a coarser sponge, and use Gel Cleaner with its brush on individual stains. Once dry, raise the nap of suede and nubuck with a brush so the surface regains its look.

Can a cleaner make boots fade?

It can, if the material is brightly dyed. So test colourfastness in an inconspicuous spot before cleaning, especially on brightly coloured suede, nubuck and light leather.

How do I remove salt marks from boots?

The solvent-free Mountval Shampoo removes mud and salt marks. Brush off the dust, apply the foam with a damp cloth or sponge, then polish smooth leather after cleaning and let it dry naturally.

How much gel do I need for one stain?

Not much: the layer of Mountval Gel Cleaner should only foam, not soak the boot. Squeeze the bottle gently, work it in with circular movements and wipe off the residue with a damp cloth.
