Which warm gloves should you choose?
Finntrail warm gloves are made for winter and damp cold: most have a membrane that keeps out water and wind, plus insulation. The range includes mittens, lobster and fingered gloves, as well as softshell models for milder cold. For winter fishing the fingered FREERIDE 2700 or WINTERSPORT 2704, rated down to −25 °C, suit most people.
How to choose, who they are not for, and FAQ
Who they are for
- •Ice fishing in winter: FREERIDE 2700 has a long cinch cuff, WINTERSPORT 2704 a goggle wiper on the index finger.
- •Snowmobile and ATV riding in the cold: IMPACT 2712 has hard carbon knuckle protection.
- •The hardest frost and long hours standing still: the NORDIC 2942 mittens are rated down to −45 °C and have a pocket for hand warmers.
How to choose
Answer two questions: how cold it is and how much your fingers need to work. The manufacturer’s ratings in this category run from −10 to −45 °C.
Type Best for Models Mittens The hardest frost and long hours standing still, when you do not need fine finger control. NORDIC 2941, NORDIC 2942 (down to −45 °C), MASTER 2943 (down to −30 °C) Lobster cut When you want the warmth of a mitten but need your thumb and index finger free. LOBSTER 2800 (down to −30 °C) Fingered winter gloves with a membrane Winter fishing and snowmobiling down to −25 °C, when you work with your gear. FREERIDE 2700, WINTERSPORT 2704 Off-road with a membrane and reinforcements ATV and snowmobile riding in cool, damp weather. IMPACT 2712 (down to −15 °C), GT 2790 Softshell Mild cold and active movement, when there is little rain. VENOM 2706 (down to −15 °C), OPTYMUS 2702 (from +10 to −10 °C) What warm gloves are not for
- •Long rain in the softshell models. VENOM 2706 and OPTYMUS 2702 have a DWR coating, not a membrane, so they get damp in prolonged rain.
- •Deep winter in GT 2790. GT has a microfleece lining without separate insulation and is made for cool, damp weather.
- •A warm day. Your hands soon sweat in insulated gloves; for spring and summer choose lightweight gloves.
