Which warm trousers should you choose for winter?
Finntrail warm trousers are insulated membrane winter trousers that keep out water and snow, block the wind and hold in warmth. The range includes trousers and bib trousers with braces, as well as a women’s model. For snowmobile and ATV riding ATLAS 4612 trousers suit most people, while for long days of ice fishing the POWERMAN 4625 bib trousers are more comfortable.
How to choose, who they are not for, and FAQ
Who they are for
- •Snowmobile and winter ATV riders who need protection from wind, snow and cold.
- •Ice fishing, when you sit on the snow for long: POWERMAN 4625 and the ATLAS trousers have a reinforced seat.
- •Outdoor work and hunting in the cold, when you need both warmth and freedom of movement.
- •For women there are the ATLAS W 4613 warm trousers.
How to choose
First choose the cut: trousers are quicker to put on, while bib trousers with braces cover your back when you sit on the ice or bend. Second, look at the margin: the bib trousers have a higher waterproof rating and are made for temperatures down to −30 °C.
Group Best for Models Warm trousers Snowmobile, ATV riding and active work in the cold. 2.5-layer membrane, 12,000 mm, insulation, microfleece at the waist, reinforced seat and leg hems. ATLAS W 4613 Bib trousers for ice fishing Long hours sitting on snow or ice. 4-layer membrane, 17,000 mm, insulation, reinforced seat, down to −30 °C. POWERMAN 4625 Bib trousers with the most margin Snowmobile trips in hard frost. 20,000 mm, 10,000 g/m²/24h, two-way zips at the leg hems, reflectors on all sides, down to −30 °C. SNOWRANGER 4619 What warm trousers are not for
- •Autumn and spring. With insulation your legs will soon sweat; choose rain trousers with a thermal layer underneath instead.
- •Active hiking above freezing. Stretchy softshell trousers are more comfortable.
- •Wading. The legs are open, so water will get inside. That is what waders are for.
Frequently asked questions
Are the warm trousers suitable down to −30 °C?
The POWERMAN 4625 and SNOWRANGER 4619 bib trousers are made for temperatures down to −30 °C. The descriptions of ATLAS 4612 and ATLAS W 4613 trousers give no temperature, so in hard frost wear a warm thermal layer under them.
What is the difference between POWERMAN 4625 and SNOWRANGER 4619?
Both are warm bib trousers for temperatures down to −30 °C. SNOWRANGER 4619 has more margin (20,000 mm, 10,000 g/m²/24h) and two-way zips at the leg hems, while POWERMAN 4625 has a 4-layer membrane and a reinforced seat.
What is the D-ring on ATLAS trousers for?
You clip your keys or the snowmobile safety lanyard to it, so they do not get lost while riding and are always to hand. Both the ATLAS 4612 and the women’s ATLAS W 4613 trousers have the ring.
How do I avoid sweating in warm trousers while riding?
The membrane lets sweat escape: 7,000 g/m²/24h for ATLAS trousers, 8,000 for POWERMAN 4625 and 10,000 for SNOWRANGER 4619. To keep moisture off your skin, wear thermal underwear underneath that wicks it away.
