Which rain suit should you choose?
Finntrail rain suits are an uninsulated membrane jacket and trousers that protect you from rain, wind and mud on an ATV, while fishing and on a hike. The range includes light suits you can roll into a backpack, tougher ones for off-road and four-layer suits for a long day in the rain. For most people who ride and fish, a tougher suit with a thermal layer underneath is the best choice.

- •Anglers on the bank or in a boat when it rains all day.
- •Hikers and travellers: LIGHTSUIT 3503 rolls up easily so you can always carry it in your backpack.
- •For women there is the SIERRA 3450 rain suit.
How to choose
First think about how long you will be in the rain and how much the fabric will rub. The membrane waterproof rating in this group runs from 12,000 mm (LIGHTSUIT 3503, OUTDOOR SUIT 3445) to 20,000 mm (GT 3425).

- •Warmth in the cold. Rain suits are uninsulated, so in winter choose a warm suit or wear warm layers underneath.
- •Wading in a river. Rain trousers do not protect you when standing in water; that is what waders are for.
- •Just keeping the wind off on a dry, cool day. A softshell jacket breathes better then; just remember that softshell is not waterproof.
- •Work near open fire or welding. Membrane fabric is not spark resistant.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a 2.5-layer and a 4-layer membrane?
Four-layer fabric is tougher and better withstands long rain and abrasion. 2.5-layer fabric is lighter and rolls up more easily, so it is more practical on a hike and as a spare suit in your backpack.
What should I wear under a rain suit?
On a cool day wear a thermal layer that wicks sweat under the rain suit, and on a colder day add an insulating layer as well. The suit itself does not keep you warm, so you regulate warmth with what you wear underneath. Read more about layering.
Can a rain suit be worn over motorcycle body armour?
Yes, the RIDER 3475 suit is made to be worn straight over normal clothing or body armour, and the RIDER 2508 overall over normal clothing. When choosing the size, measure yourself wearing the armour you will have underneath.
Can I buy just a rain jacket?
Yes. This section has three separate jackets: the light LIGHTSUIT 3504, the four-layer EXCALIBUR 4032 and the extended TOURNAMENT 4028. They go with waders or your own trousers, and you will find more models in the rain jackets section.
How many millimetres of waterproofing are enough?
For a short shower and a hike 12,000 mm is enough, as with LIGHTSUIT 3503. If you are out in the rain all day, sit on a wet seat or backpack straps press on the fabric, choose 17,000 to 20,000 mm, as with THOR 3421 or GT 3425.
