Which thermal underwear should you choose?
The Finntrail base layer is thermal underwear sets worn right next to the skin under all your other clothing. They wick sweat away and hold in warmth. How to choose
Choose by temperature and how much you move. The manufacturer rates the all-season models from +15 to −15 °C, the warmer ones from +10 to −25 °C. How to combine the base layer with the others is explained in our layering guide.

- •Wearing as an outer garment in the cold. Thermal underwear does not protect from wind and rain; over it you need a mid layer and outerwear.
- •Wearing loose, like pyjamas. The base layer must fit snugly against the skin, otherwise sweat is not wicked away from it.
- •Hot summer days. It is easier to protect yourself from the sun with thin UV protection T-shirts.
Frequently asked questions
Merino or synthetic: which should I choose?
The synthetic ALL SEASON and THERMO S sets dry quickly and suit high activity. MERINO 6209, made of merino wool, regulates temperature naturally and hardly holds odour, so it is comfortable on long trips and for sensitive skin.
What is the difference between ALL SEASON 6206 and THERMO S 6304?
ALL SEASON 6206 is knitted with a seamless construction and rated from +15 to −15 °C. THERMO S 6304 has a microfleece inner and flat seams, and its range goes into deeper cold: from +10 to −25 °C.
Does a set include both a top and trousers?
Yes, the models in this category are sold as a set: a long-sleeved top and trousers. The MERINO 6209 set consists of a long-sleeved top and leggings, both in merino wool. Choose a close fitting size so the fabric touches your skin.
How do I wash thermal underwear?
Wash the synthetic THERMO S 6304 and ALL SEASON 6206 at up to 30 °C and without fabric softener. Wash MERINO 6209 on a wool cycle, without fabric softener, and dry it flat. More tips are on our care page.
