    What is this product and who is it for?

    Mountval Down Wash 300 ml is a special detergent for items filled with natural and synthetic down. It is intended for down jackets, insulated trousers, sleeping bags and other down filled items. It removes dirt and stains and helps to keep the natural oils of the down, its loft, its resilience and its thermal insulation.

    What problem does it solve?

    An ordinary detergent washes out the natural oils of the down, so the fill clumps together, loses volume and stops keeping you warm, even when the jacket looks clean. Mountval Down Wash 300 ml cleans the fill without stripping it and helps to keep the loft and the insulating properties. A limit: this is a detergent, it gives no separate long lasting DWR protection.

    Large sleeping bags should be washed only in a drum where they can move freely.

    How do you use it step by step?

    Step 1

    Close the zips and empty the pockets.

    Step 2

    In the machine pour 75 ml into the main wash compartment.

    Step 3

    By hand: 75 ml in 15 litres of water.

    Step 4

    After washing, shake the item so that the fill spreads out.

    Step 5

    Dry it fully, shaking it regularly so that the down does not clump.

    Choose the programme and the temperature according to the care label of the item. If the label allows it, a tumble dryer can be used, and that helps to restore the loft.

    What is this product not suitable for?

    • •This is not an impregnation product for down. It washes and prepares the item, but it gives no separate long lasting DWR protection.
    • •Not suitable for wool. For merino and wool items there is Mountval Wool Wash 300 ml.
    • •Do not use fabric softener. It sticks the down together and reduces its loft.
    • •Do not leave the item damp. Down that is not fully dry stays clumped and can pick up an odour.

    Yes. The manufacturer names both natural and synthetic down, so one product covers both types of fill.

    How much detergent does a sleeping bag need?

    In the machine 75 ml into the main wash compartment. The drum size matters more than the dose: the sleeping bag has to move freely.

    Why is the down clumped after washing?

    That happens while the item is not completely dry. The manufacturer says to shake the item after washing and during drying so that the fill does not stick together.

    Will the jacket repel water again after washing?

    Not on its own. Down Wash is a detergent, and once the item is dry the outer fabric can be treated with Textile Shield.

    Can I use a tumble dryer?

    If the care label of the item allows it, yes. While drying you have to shake the item regularly so that the fill spreads evenly.
