    What is this product and who is it for?

    Mountval Textile Shield 300 ml is a spray on impregnation for textile and technical fabrics. It is made for jackets, trousers, caps, gloves, backpacks and specialised mountain clothing. It reduces how much moisture and dirt soak in, does not change the colour of the fabric and is designed to keep the fabric permeable to air.

    What problem does it solve?

    A rain jacket usually lets water through not because of the membrane, but because the outer fabric soaks up water: it gets heavier, it gets colder and it breathes worse. Mountval Textile Shield 300 ml restores the surface water repellency of that outer fabric. The limit: the product does not repair tears, leaking seams or a damaged membrane, and keeping water out still depends on the construction of the item itself.

    When and on what should you use it?

    • •When the shoulders and the hood of a jacket start to darken in the rain.
    • •When only a part of the item has to be treated, instead of washing all of it.
    • •For backpacks, caps and gloves that you would not put in a washing machine.
    • •For mountain and hiking clothing before the season.
    • •After washing with Mountval Wash & Care 315 ml, when the item is clean and ready for the impregnation.

    A dry or a damp surface has to be chosen according to the label, and the fabric must not be oversaturated.

    How do you use it step by step?

    Step 1

    Wash or wipe the item, the surface has to be clean.

    Step 2

    Spray evenly from 15 to 20 cm.

    Step 3

    Cover the whole outside, above all the shoulders, the hood and the seam areas.

    Step 4

    Avoid oversaturating, the layer has to be even.

    Step 5

    Let the item dry completely before use.

    Before treating the whole item, test the product on a hidden area. A clean surface gives the best result.

    What is this product not suitable for?

    • •It does not repair damage to the membrane or the seams. An impregnation product does not restore mechanical defects.
    • •It does not make the fabric water tight. It restores the surface repellency, while keeping water out is decided by the membrane and the construction of the item.
    • •It does not clean. Wash a dirty item first, for technical clothing Mountval Wash & Care 315 ml is the right choice.
    • •It is not for leather footwear. Leather and suede are covered by Mountval Protector 300 ml or Mountval Oil Protector 300 ml.

    How does it differ from the closest Mountval products?

    When it suits better

    • Poured into the rinse compartment of the washing machine. Better when a whole item or a tent has to be treated evenly.
    • A detergent, not an impregnation. Used before the treatment, so that the fabric is clean.
    • An aerosol, made for footwear too. Better when one pack has to protect both the boots and the jacket.

    Will Mountval Textile Shield make my jacket waterproof?

    No. The product restores the water repellency of the outer fabric. Whether the item lets water through is decided by its membrane, by the sealing of its seams and by its overall construction.

    Can only one area be sprayed?

    Yes, that is one of the main reasons for this form. For local treatment, or for the outer surface only, a spray is handier than a wash in product.

    How does it differ from Waterproofing Refresher?

    Textile Shield is sprayed onto the surface, while Mountval Waterproofing Refresher 300 ml is poured into the rinse compartment and treats the whole item evenly.

    Is it suitable for a backpack and a tent?

    Backpacks are named by the manufacturer separately. For large tents it is more even and more economical to use a wash in product or to apply it with a sponge.

    When should you spray: on dry or on damp fabric?

    The manufacturer tells you to follow the label of the particular product. There is one general requirement: the surface has to be clean.
