Beanie Finntrail VENOM Graphite 9718
A beanie for cold weather, rated down to −15 °C. The close-fitting shape stays clear of a hood or helmet, and the ear coverage keeps the wind off what gets cold first.
What it is for
Made for fishing, off-road riding and everyday wear in the cold season, when you need a simple, dependable beanie.
- •For winter fishing and outdoor work.
- •For everyday wear down to −15 °C.
- •As a spare beanie in your backpack or car.
Specifications
Type Beanie Temperature limit down to −15 °C Shape Close-fitting, covers the ears Colour Graphite (graphite grey) Care Wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle Features
Down to −15 °C
The limit stated by the manufacturer. That is more than an everyday acrylic beanie and less than the SPORT membrane beanie, which is rated down to −25 °C.
Works under a hood
The close fit lets you pull on a hood or helmet without pressure points.
Care
Wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle with a detergent made for synthetic fabrics (Mountval Polar Wash). Skip the softener: it reduces stretch and moisture wicking. Odour, which sinks in fastest around the face and head, is handled by a rinse-cycle freshener (Mountval Silver Freshness). Dry flat, away from heaters and direct sun.
Frequently asked questions
How does it differ from the SPORT beanie?
VENOM is rated down to −15 °C, while SPORT 9715 has a membrane and is rated down to −25 °C. If you spend a lot of time in cold and wind, choose SPORT.
Can it be worn under a helmet?
The fit is close, so it goes under. For snowmobiling, a balaclava is more comfortable under a helmet.

How to Choose Your FINNTRAIL Hat Size
Hat size is chosen by head circumference. A well-fitting hat stays put in the wind without pressing on your forehead.
How to Measure Head Circumference
Wrap a measuring tape around your head about 1 cm above the eyebrows and over the widest part of the back of your head. The tape should sit snugly but not tight.
Size Chart
Size Head circumference (cm) Head circumference (in) M-L 56–58 22–22.8 XL-XXL 60–62 23.6–24.4 If your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the larger one.
Product Care Instructions
- Wash membrane clothing only with special detergents, such as Mountval Wash & Care, at a temperature no higher than 30 °C, without fabric softeners or bleach.
- After washing, restore water repellency using Mountval Waterproofing Refresher (wash-in) or a spray-on impregnation, following the product instructions.
- After impregnation, allow the product to dry naturally.
- Repair minor membrane damages with special glue, such as Aquaseal / Aquasure, only on clean and dry surfaces.
- Clean boots by hand, do not use a washing machine; if needed, use impregnation products designed for technical footwear.
Regular care helps maintain water repellency, breathability, and prolongs the product's lifespan.

Membrane waterproofing and breathability
Membrane fabric is usually described using two numbers, often separated by a slash: waterproofness and breathability. The first number indicates waterproofness, the second indicates breathability.
?Waterproofing
This is a sliding scale measured in mm that shows how high a column of water you can suspend over the membrane before it starts to let moisture through.
Waterproof Rating Conditions 0–10,000 mm Light rain, dry snow, light pressure. 11,000–15,000 mm Moderate rain, average snow, light pressure. 16,000–20,000 mm Heavy rain, wet snow, some pressure. 20,000 mm+ Heavy rain, wet snow, high pressure. ?Breathability
This is the amount of moisture by weight that can pass through one square metre of fabric over a period of 24 hours. It is commonly measured in g/m²/24 hrs.
Breathability Rating Level of Breathability 0–5,000 g/m²/24 hrs Low – light exercise. 5,000–15,000 g/m²/24 hrs Medium – medium to high energy activity. 15,000 g/m²/24 hrs+ High – vigorous sustained activity.
