    What is this product and who is it for?

    Mountval Protector 300 ml is a spray on footwear impregnation without an aerosol propellant. It is made for leather of various types, including suede and nubuck, for microfibre and for footwear with a membrane. Used regularly it protects against water, snow and dirt, and the formula is designed for items with High-Tech membranes.

    What problem does it solve?

    Hiking footwear is usually built from several materials at once: leather, suede or nubuck panels and a microfibre mesh. Using a different product on each part makes the care awkward. Mountval Protector 300 ml is one spray on treatment for the whole boot, without an aerosol propellant. The limit: used regularly the product protects the surface, but it does not give the item a water tight construction.

    When and on what should you use it?

    • •For the everyday protection of mixed material hiking and trekking footwear.
    • •For footwear with a membrane that needs surface protection without sealing.
    • •When a pump sprayer is more convenient than an aerosol, for example in a closed room.

    Which materials does it suit, and which does it not?

    The manufacturer stresses one thing separately: do not clean mud with the treatment. Finishes differ, so test suede and nubuck in bright colours on a hidden area first.

    How do you use it step by step?

    Step 1

    Clean the footwear, the surface has to be clean.

    Step 2

    Spray from about 15 cm.

    Step 3

    Cover the whole surface, including the seams and the edge of the sole.

    Step 4

    Let the footwear dry completely.

    Step 5

    Repeat when water stops beading up.

    The product works best when it is used regularly, not once a season. The spraying distance of 15 cm is the manufacturer instruction for this product in particular.

    What is this product not suitable for?

    • •It does not make footwear waterproof. It restores the surface repellency, but keeping water out is decided by the construction of the boot and by its membrane.
    • •It does not clean mud. Mud must not be cleaned with the treatment itself.
    • •It is not for patent leather. A closed finish does not absorb the product.
    • •It does not replace a product made for oiled leather. For the oiled leather of hiking boots the manufacturer offers Mountval Oil Protector 300 ml.

    How does it differ from the closest Mountval products?

    When it suits better

    • Based on natural oils. Better for oiled leather in particular, when the effect typical of its care has to be kept up.
    • An aerosol, it suits clothing too. Better when one product has to cover both the footwear and the clothing.

    How does Mountval Protector differ from the Waterproof aerosol?

    Protector is applied with a pump sprayer without a propellant and it is made for footwear. Mountval Waterproof 200 ml is an aerosol that suits clothing as well.

    Is it suitable for Gore-Tex footwear?

    The product is made for High-Tech membranes and does not name particular membrane brands. So we do not claim compatibility with a specific brand and suggest checking the care instructions of the footwear maker.

    Can dirty boots be sprayed?

    No. Mud must not be cleaned with the treatment. Clean the boots first and spray only after that.

    How often should it be used?

    The product is meant for regular use. A practical sign: when water stops beading up and starts to darken the surface, it is time to repeat.

    Is it suitable for light suede?

    It is, but finishes differ. The manufacturer recommends testing suede and nubuck in bright and light colours on a hidden area first.
