Finntrail NORDY GraphiteYellow 5237 Insulated Boots
Finntrail NORDY are insulated boots for fishing and time outdoors in the cold, with a waterproof galosh and a removable warm liner. The liner with 800 g Thermalrate insulation and a foil layer holds the heat and wicks moisture away from the foot. Two straps with Duraflex buckles tighten the high shaft, and a drawcord with a cinch at the top keeps snow out. The boots are rated down to −30 °C.
Who it is for
Finntrail NORDY are made for fishing and other outdoor activities in the cold season, when you spend hours in snow or on the ice and want your feet to stay warm and dry.
- •Ice fishing, when you stand by the hole for a long time.
- •Fishing from the shore in late autumn and winter, through wet snow and slush.
- •Winter walks and outdoor work, including after dark: 3M reflective elements help you stay visible.
When they work best and where they do not fit
Finntrail NORDY work best on snow, ice and wet winter ground: the tread keeps its grip and the galosh protects the foot from melting snow. Know the limits in advance. Only the lower section is waterproof; the shaft is frost-resistant with a water-repellent finish, but it does not hold back water. So do not wade in them or stand for long in deep wet snow above the galosh line. For long snowmobile rides and the hardest frost, BLIZZARD boots are the better fit.
Technical data
Materials and technology
Removable liner with foil
The liner with 800 g Thermalrate insulation and a foil layer holds the heat and wicks moisture away from the foot. It is easy to take out and dry overnight, and the cellular EVA insole adds protection from ground cold and softens every step.
Waterproof galosh and DWR shaft
The lower section keeps water out, so the foot stays dry in slush and melting snow. The high frost-resistant shaft has a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish: snow and moisture run off it, but it is not a waterproof material.
Duraflex buckles and snow drawcord
Two adjustable straps with sturdy Duraflex buckles fit the shaft to your leg, and the drawcord with a cinch closes the top opening so snow and dirt do not get inside.
Grip and visibility
The tread holds its grip on slippery, snowy and icy surfaces, and 3M reflective elements help you stay visible at dusk and in the dark, for example walking back from the lake along the road.
How NORDY differ from BLIZZARD boots
Care
After a trip rinse the mud off with clean water, especially from the galosh and the tread. Do not machine wash. Take the liner out and dry it separately at room temperature, not on a radiator and not by a fire: heat damages the insulation. Once the shaft is dry, spray it with an impregnator (Mountval Protector) so water beads off again. Odour inside the boots is handled by a spray (Mountval Odour Absorber).
Frequently asked questions
How much cold can Finntrail NORDY take?
Finntrail NORDY are rated down to −30 °C. That limit assumes a dry liner and a warm sock; how warm you actually stay depends a lot on movement, socks and how long you stand in one place. For long hours on the ice, a thick wool sock is worth it.
Are Finntrail NORDY boots waterproof?
The lower section (galosh) is waterproof, so wet snow and slush are no problem for the foot. The shaft is made of frost-resistant material with a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish, but it does not hold back water, so do not wade or stand for long in deep wet snow above the galosh line.
What is the removable liner with foil for?
The liner with 800 g Thermalrate insulation and a foil layer holds the heat and wicks moisture away from the foot. It comes out easily, so you dry it separately overnight and put on dry boots the next morning. The cellular EVA insole adds warmth from below.
How is the NORDY shaft tightened?
Two adjustable straps with Duraflex buckles tighten the high shaft, so the boot sits firmly on the leg. At the top there is a drawcord with a cinch: pull it tight and snow and dirt stay out.
How do NORDY differ from BLIZZARD boots?
Finntrail NORDY are made for fishing and time outdoors down to −30 °C: a removable liner with 800 g Thermalrate and foil, a waterproof galosh, two Duraflex buckles and 3M reflective elements. BLIZZARD 5226 and BLIZZARD ATOP 5234 are snowmobile boots with 1,200 g insulation, a membrane and a limit of −75 °C. If you ride a snowmobile or expect the hardest frost, choose BLIZZARD.
Which size should I take?
Finntrail NORDY come in EU sizes 41 to 46. On the boot you may see the manufacturer number 8 to 13: the EU size is that number plus 33, for example 9 equals EU 42. Winter boots are worn with a warm sock, so if you plan a thick wool sock you can go one size up. Not sure, write to us and we will help you choose.

How to Choose the Correct FINNTRAIL Men's Footwear Size
Choosing the correct footwear size is important not only for comfort but also for safety. Boots that are too small may compress the foot, restrict circulation, and cause discomfort, while oversized footwear may reduce stability, create friction, and make walking in water or mud more difficult.
FINNTRAIL wading boots are designed to accommodate both the neoprene stockingfoot of waders and a medium-thickness sock. Therefore, sizing should be selected according to your actual foot length in centimeters, rather than your everyday shoe size.
Measure Your Foot Length
Measure the length of your foot from the heel to the tip of your longest toe. It is recommended to take measurements in the evening, when feet are naturally slightly larger after daily activity.
How to measure: stand on a sheet of paper, mark the position of your heel and longest toe, then measure the distance between these points in centimeters. If one foot is slightly longer than the other, always use the measurement of the longer foot.
Select Your Size Using the Chart
Compare your measured foot length with the FINNTRAIL size chart. For example, if your foot length is 28 cm, the recommended size is 43 (10).
EU / US Size Foot Length, cm 38 (5) 23 39 (6) 24 40 (7) 25 41 (8) 26 42 (9) 27 43 (10) 28 44 (11) 29 45 (12) 30 46 (13) 31 47 (14) 32 Why Are FINNTRAIL Wading Boots Sized Differently?
Wading boots are not ordinary everyday footwear. They are designed to be worn together with waders that feature neoprene stockingfeet. Therefore, the boot must provide sufficient space for both the neoprene stockingfoot and a medium-thickness sock.
Important: FINNTRAIL wading boots are already designed to account for the thickness of neoprene stockingfeet. There is no need to order a larger size than indicated by your actual foot length.Oversizing excessively may reduce foot support, decrease stability, and increase friction during walking.
When Should You Choose a Larger Size?
A larger size may be appropriate only in certain situations.
- If your foot length falls between two sizes.
- If you have particularly wide feet.
- If you plan to wear thicker thermal socks in cold weather.
- If the boots will be used for long-distance walking and additional room is preferred.
Recommendation: if you are between two sizes, it is generally better to choose the larger option, but avoid sizing up more than necessary.Note About Wet Wading Shoes
Wet wading shoes may fit approximately 1.5 sizes larger than standard footwear. When selecting this type of footwear, always consider the specific model and intended use.
Note: this recommendation applies specifically to wet wading shoes. Standard FINNTRAIL wading boots should be selected according to the foot length chart above.Recommendation Before Ordering
Before placing your order, measure your foot length in centimeters and compare it with the size chart. If you will be wearing the boots with waders, wet wading socks, or thermal socks, consider the complete layering system when choosing your size.
Best results: provide your foot length in centimeters and specify whether the boots will be worn with waders, wet wading socks, or thicker thermal socks.Summary
To choose the correct FINNTRAIL men's footwear size, the most important measurement is your foot length in centimeters. FINNTRAIL wading boots are already designed to accommodate neoprene stockingfeet, so there is no need to increase your size unnecessarily. If your measurement falls between two sizes or you have wider feet, choosing the larger size may provide a better fit.
Wading Boots Care
Wading boots are constantly exposed to moisture, sand, mud and abrasion from rocks. Proper care helps maintain their durability, grip and comfort.
Cleaning After Use
After every fishing trip, rinse the boots with clean water to remove mud, sand and small stones that may damage the material or seams.
If the boots were used in saltwater or extremely muddy conditions, rinse them thoroughly.
Washing the Boots
If the boots are heavily soiled, clean them by hand using water and a soft brush. Machine washing is not recommended.
If necessary, use specialized cleaning products designed for technical outdoor footwear.
Proper Drying
After washing or use, allow the boots to dry naturally at room temperature with the insoles removed.
Avoid drying them on radiators or using hot air heaters.
Regular Care
Regular cleaning and proper drying help maintain grip on slippery rocks, stability in water and comfort during long fishing trips.

Membrane waterproofing and breathability
Membrane fabric is usually described using two numbers, often separated by a slash: waterproofness and breathability. The first number indicates waterproofness, the second indicates breathability.
?Waterproofing
This is a sliding scale measured in mm that shows how high a column of water you can suspend over the membrane before it starts to let moisture through.
Waterproof Rating Conditions 0–10,000 mm Light rain, dry snow, light pressure. 11,000–15,000 mm Moderate rain, average snow, light pressure. 16,000–20,000 mm Heavy rain, wet snow, some pressure. 20,000 mm+ Heavy rain, wet snow, high pressure. ?Breathability
This is the amount of moisture by weight that can pass through one square metre of fabric over a period of 24 hours. It is commonly measured in g/m²/24 hrs.
Breathability Rating Level of Breathability 0–5,000 g/m²/24 hrs Low – light exercise. 5,000–15,000 g/m²/24 hrs Medium – medium to high energy activity. 15,000 g/m²/24 hrs+ High – vigorous sustained activity.
