Care set for hiking boots Mountval, 100 and 300 ml
Cleaning foam and spray-on water repellent for leather, suede, nubuck and microfibre.
What is this product and who is it for?
Care set for hiking boots combines the Shampoo 100 ml cleaning foam with the Protector 300 ml spray-on water repellent. It is meant for hiking, work and city footwear in leather, suede, nubuck and microfibre, and for boots with membranes. It covers both required steps: cleaning first, protection second, because a treatment performs worse on a dirty surface.
Why choose this product?
- •The right orderProtector says to spray onto clean footwear, so the cleaner is a condition, not an extra.
- •Suits most materialsLeather, suede, nubuck, microfibre and membrane footwear.
- •Foam without solventsShampoo contains no solvents.
- •Pump spray, no propellantProtector is a mechanical pump spray, not an aerosol.
- •Reaches seams and weltSpraying covers the places where moisture gets in first.
- •One answer for the whole pairFrom brushing off dust to restored water-repellency.
What problem does it solve?
Hiking boots rarely fail all at once: first they build up a layer of dirt, then they stop repelling water, and moisture starts soaking into the suede or the seams. Many people reach straight for the treatment, but on a dirty surface it soaks in unevenly and lasts a shorter time. Care set for hiking boots solves the same problem in two steps: Shampoo lifts the dirt and revives the colour, Protector restores surface water-repellency. The limit: the bundle does not mend a leaking boot and does not make it waterproof.
When and on what should you use it?
- •Hiking and mountain boots after a season or a muddy trip.
- •Suede and nubuck footwear that has darkened and started soaking.
- •Work footwear that spends every day in wet or dirty conditions.
- •New boots, prepared before their first rainy day.
- •Anyone who wants one box for all footwear care; more in washing, cleaning and freshening products.
Which materials does it suit, and which does it not?
Oiled leather needs a greasing product after cleaning; that is Mountval Oil Protector 300 ml. For old local stains Mountval Gel Cleaner 100 ml works better. A bundle is two separate factory packs, not one mixed product. Use each product according to its own label and in the order described below.
How do you use it step by step?
Step 1
Brush the dust off the footwear with a dry brush.
Step 2
Apply Shampoo foam with a damp cloth or sponge; use a coarser sponge on suede, nubuck and microfibre.
Step 3
Wipe smooth leather with a cloth and polish it; do not soak the footwear through.
Step 4
Let the footwear dry completely, then brush up the nap on suede and nubuck.
Step 5
Spray Protector from about 15 cm, cover the whole surface, the seams and the welt, then let it dry.
Test colour fastness on a hidden area before cleaning. Repeat the treatment when water stops beading up, not by the calendar. Spray only in a well-ventilated place.
What is this product not suitable for?
- •It does not make footwear waterproof. Protector restores surface water-repellency; whether water gets in is decided by the construction and the membrane.
- •Not for patent leather. The products do not soak into a closed patent finish and can leave marks.
- •It does not replace an oiled-leather product. Oiled leather needs a greasing product after cleaning, and Protector is not one.
- •It does not lift old local stains. A single old stain is better handled with a gel cleaner that has its own brush.

What are the technical details?
Frequently asked questions
Why do boots have to be cleaned before treating them?
On a dirty surface the treatment soaks in unevenly and lasts a shorter time. Cleaning is the first step in the Mountval Protector instructions, which is why the cleaner is a condition in this bundle rather than an accessory.
Is the care set for hiking boots suitable for suede and nubuck?
Yes, that is one of the main uses of both products. Test bright and light suede on a hidden area first, because factory finishes differ.
Does it suit oiled leather boots?
For cleaning, yes; for protection, not entirely. Oiled leather needs a greasing product after cleaning, and that is Mountval Oil Protector 300 ml, which Protector does not replace.
How often should the treatment be repeated?
When water stops beading up and starts soaking into the surface. That depends on how hard the footwear is used, so there is no need to follow a calendar.
Does the bundle suit membrane boots?
Yes. Shampoo suits footwear with membranes and the manufacturer lists Protector as suitable for High-Tech membranes. Both work on the outer layer, not on the membrane itself.
