Start with how long you will be in the open sun. The longer, the more skin is worth covering with fabric.

Frequently asked questions
Are UV shirts suitable for wading on a hot day without waders?
Yes. The WAVE line fabric is light and dries quickly, so a splashed shirt does not stay wet for long. WAVE 4608 trousers suit your legs, and we cover wading without waders in a separate article.
Why do you burn faster by the water?
Water reflects sunlight, so it reaches your face and neck from below too, even under the peak of a cap. That is why an angler should cover not only the arms but also the neck and chin with a mask.
Which mask slips less when casting?
WAVE 9805: it has an anatomical cut, silicone inserts that hold the mask in place and laser-cut breathing holes. Mask 9803 is stretchy, with flat seams and an antibacterial finish.
Will thin UV trousers tear on the stones?
According to the description, the WAVE 4608 fabric resists abrasion and tearing, and the stretchy anatomical cut does not restrict you when you climb into a boat or over stones. Still, these are light summer trousers, not workwear.
