When it shines
It performs best while wading on a slippery, rocky riverbed: on rocks covered in algae and moss. The felt sole holds where a rubber one slips, while the drainage keeps water from pooling inside. In mud and on soft ground felt clogs and loses grip, so for off-road and ATV choose a rubber sole.

Felt sole
The felt sole grips wet stone and the layer of algae on it: the fibres conform to the surface and stop the foot from sliding. That is why felt is considered the best choice for rocky rivers. On dry land and in mud it gives no grip and wears down faster.
Neoprene inserts
Internal neoprene inserts add softness and comfort, gently cradling the foot and reducing pressure during long wear.

How it differs from ordinary rubber or hiking boots
Care
After a trip rinse off mud and sand with clean water, especially the sole and the seams: sand and silt have to be washed out of the felt, otherwise the fibres harden and grip drops. Once dry, spray the upper with an impregnator (Mountval Protector) so water beads off again; do not spray the felt sole, it has to stay absorbent. Dry at room temperature or in a boot dryer on low, not near a radiator: heat damages the glue and deforms the sole. Felt takes longer to dry, so give it time. Odour inside is handled by a spray (Mountval Odour Absorber).

Are these boots waterproof?
These are wading boots used with waders, not waterproof boots. Your foot is kept dry by the neoprene sock of the waders, while the boot provides grip and protection. The boot has drainage holes, so any water that gets inside drains out.
Can I wear them without waders?
Yes, you can also wear the boots on their own for wading. Just remember two things: the upper is not sealed, so when wading deeper water will get inside and drain out through the drainage, and the felt sole is made for wet rocks, not for hikes on dry ground or off-road.
What size should I choose if I wear them with waders?
Wading boots are worn over the neoprene sock of the waders, and their sizing is already adjusted for being worn with a 4 mm neoprene sock, so choose your usual size. If you are not sure, message us and we will help you pick.
Why is a felt sole better than rubber?
Felt fibres conform to wet stone and bite into the layer of algae, so on an overgrown riverbed felt holds better than any rubber tread. In return, felt dislikes mud and dry ground: it clogs in mud and wears down faster on hard surfaces. For off-road and ATV choose a rubber sole.

Measure Your Foot Length
Measure the length of your foot from the heel to the tip of your longest toe. It is recommended to take measurements in the evening, when feet are naturally slightly larger after daily activity.
How to measure: stand on a sheet of paper, mark the position of your heel and longest toe, then measure the distance between these points in centimeters.If one foot is slightly longer than the other, always use the measurement of the longer foot.

Wading boots are not ordinary everyday footwear. They are designed to be worn together with waders that feature neoprene stockingfeet. Therefore, the boot must provide sufficient space for both the neoprene stockingfoot and a medium-thickness sock.

Cleaning After Use

Washing the Boots
