Finntrail RUNNER Graphite 5221 Wading Boots
Wading boots for fishing and time in the water, made to be worn with waders. They support the ankle, protect the toes from rocks and do not fill up with water. The Finntrail RUNNER Graphite 5221 has a durable OXFORD fabric upper, reinforced toe and heel, an updated outsole with a grippy tread and a high-cut ankle. The boot is not sealed and is not meant to be: water that gets in drains out fast through the drainage ports, while the neoprene socks of your waders keep your feet dry.
Who they are for
Made for anglers who stand or walk in the water for hours in waders and want a boot that is comfortable, stable and built for heavy use.
- •For fishing while wading in rivers or along lake shores.
- •For long days in the water, when the boot must stay comfortable and light.
- •For walking uneven, rocky banks where ankle support matters.
When they work best
Best for long days in the water with waders: the high cut holds the ankle on an uneven bottom, and the drainage ports stop the boot filling with water. Not suited for: without waders the boot is not sealed, so your foot will get wet, and for everyday wear on dry land or in winter, hiking or insulated boots are a better choice.
Technical data
Materials and technology
OXFORD fabric upper
Durable OXFORD fabric stands up to heavy use in the water, among rocks and branches. Together with the reinforced toe and heel it protects the foot from impacts where the boot hits the bottom most often.
Updated outsole
The outsole with a grippy tread is designed to hold reliably on slippery surfaces when you walk a wet bank or riverbed. Still place your feet with care when wading: no sole makes a slippery rock safe.
Drainage ports
A wading boot does not hold water, it lets it out. The drainage ports quickly release water that gets inside, so the boot does not get heavy after you step out and dries faster.
High cut and easy entry
The high cut supports the ankle and adds stability on uneven terrain. The wide heel pull loop makes it easy to pull the boot on over the wader sock, and the durable nylon laces tighten it firmly.
How they differ from other Finntrail wading boots
Care
After each trip rinse the boots with clean water, especially the tread, the seams and the drainage ports, so no sand or silt stays inside. Dry at room temperature with the laces loosened, not on a radiator and not by a fire: heat harms the glue and the materials. Once the OXFORD fabric is dry, spray it with a water repellent (Mountval Protector) so it soaks up less water and dirt, and keep odour inside the boots under control with a spray (Mountval Odour Absorber).
Frequently asked questions
Are the Finntrail RUNNER 5221 boots waterproof?
No, and that is by design. These are wading boots: water gets in and drains out fast through the drainage ports, so the boot does not get heavy. Your feet stay dry thanks to the neoprene socks of your waders, which the boots are worn over.
Which size should I take if I wear them with waders?
The neoprene sock and the sock under it take up room, so wading boots are usually chosen larger than everyday shoes. Available EU sizes: 39, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 and 46 (no size 40). Tell us your usual size and your wader model, and we will help you choose.
What is the outsole made of, and does it have studs?
The RUNNER 5221 has an updated outsole with a grippy tread designed for slippery surfaces. We do not state the sole material or studs, as we do not have them confirmed. If it matters for your choice, write to us before you buy and we will check.
How does RUNNER differ from WADEMAN and PROGUIDE?
All three are wading boots with drainage, worn with waders. WADEMAN 5203 has a rubber outsole with a deep tread and an EVA midsole, PROGUIDE 5189 has a Vibram® outsole and a full CORDURA® upper. The RUNNER 5221 is the more affordable model with an OXFORD fabric upper and reinforced toe and heel.
Which waders should I wear them with? Can I wear them without?
With waders that have neoprene stocking feet, for example Finntrail RUNNER 1519 waders. Put the boot on over the neoprene sock and lace it firmly. You can wear them without waders, but your foot will get wet, as the boot is not sealed.

How to Choose the Correct FINNTRAIL Men's Footwear Size
Choosing the correct footwear size is important not only for comfort but also for safety. Boots that are too small may compress the foot, restrict circulation, and cause discomfort, while oversized footwear may reduce stability, create friction, and make walking in water or mud more difficult.
FINNTRAIL wading boots are designed to accommodate both the neoprene stockingfoot of waders and a medium-thickness sock. Therefore, sizing should be selected according to your actual foot length in centimeters, rather than your everyday shoe size.
Measure Your Foot Length
Measure the length of your foot from the heel to the tip of your longest toe. It is recommended to take measurements in the evening, when feet are naturally slightly larger after daily activity.
How to measure: stand on a sheet of paper, mark the position of your heel and longest toe, then measure the distance between these points in centimeters. If one foot is slightly longer than the other, always use the measurement of the longer foot.
Select Your Size Using the Chart
Compare your measured foot length with the FINNTRAIL size chart. For example, if your foot length is 28 cm, the recommended size is 43 (10).
EU / US Size Foot Length, cm 38 (5) 23 39 (6) 24 40 (7) 25 41 (8) 26 42 (9) 27 43 (10) 28 44 (11) 29 45 (12) 30 46 (13) 31 47 (14) 32 Why Are FINNTRAIL Wading Boots Sized Differently?
Wading boots are not ordinary everyday footwear. They are designed to be worn together with waders that feature neoprene stockingfeet. Therefore, the boot must provide sufficient space for both the neoprene stockingfoot and a medium-thickness sock.
Important: FINNTRAIL wading boots are already designed to account for the thickness of neoprene stockingfeet. There is no need to order a larger size than indicated by your actual foot length.Oversizing excessively may reduce foot support, decrease stability, and increase friction during walking.
When Should You Choose a Larger Size?
A larger size may be appropriate only in certain situations.
- If your foot length falls between two sizes.
- If you have particularly wide feet.
- If you plan to wear thicker thermal socks in cold weather.
- If the boots will be used for long-distance walking and additional room is preferred.
Recommendation: if you are between two sizes, it is generally better to choose the larger option, but avoid sizing up more than necessary.Note About Wet Wading Shoes
Wet wading shoes may fit approximately 1.5 sizes larger than standard footwear. When selecting this type of footwear, always consider the specific model and intended use.
Note: this recommendation applies specifically to wet wading shoes. Standard FINNTRAIL wading boots should be selected according to the foot length chart above.Recommendation Before Ordering
Before placing your order, measure your foot length in centimeters and compare it with the size chart. If you will be wearing the boots with waders, wet wading socks, or thermal socks, consider the complete layering system when choosing your size.
Best results: provide your foot length in centimeters and specify whether the boots will be worn with waders, wet wading socks, or thicker thermal socks.Summary
To choose the correct FINNTRAIL men's footwear size, the most important measurement is your foot length in centimeters. FINNTRAIL wading boots are already designed to accommodate neoprene stockingfeet, so there is no need to increase your size unnecessarily. If your measurement falls between two sizes or you have wider feet, choosing the larger size may provide a better fit.
Wading Boots Care
Wading boots are constantly exposed to moisture, sand, mud and abrasion from rocks. Proper care helps maintain their durability, grip and comfort.
Cleaning After Use
After every fishing trip, rinse the boots with clean water to remove mud, sand and small stones that may damage the material or seams.
If the boots were used in saltwater or extremely muddy conditions, rinse them thoroughly.
Washing the Boots
If the boots are heavily soiled, clean them by hand using water and a soft brush. Machine washing is not recommended.
If necessary, use specialized cleaning products designed for technical outdoor footwear.
Proper Drying
After washing or use, allow the boots to dry naturally at room temperature with the insoles removed.
Avoid drying them on radiators or using hot air heaters.
Regular Care
Regular cleaning and proper drying help maintain grip on slippery rocks, stability in water and comfort during long fishing trips.
