Balaclava Finntrail THERMOBALA 9722
A winter balaclava with a thin warm top and a dense, wind resistant lower section. It fits under a helmet and covers the neck and face when riding an ATV or a snowmobile. The Finntrail THERMOBALA 9722 is built from two different zones: the top is thin and warm so it does not fight the helmet, and the lower part is denser and blocks wind around the neck and face, where speed chills you the most. The anatomical cut keeps it close to the head and the stretch fabric does not restrict movement. One size, black.
Who it is for
Made for riding in the cold season, when wind and speed chill your face and neck more than the temperature does.
- •ATV and snowmobile riding in winter.
- •Winter sport and active time outdoors.
- •Off-road riding where a helmet is worn.
When it works best
Best on a cold, windy day under a helmet: the thin top lets the helmet sit properly, and the dense lower section holds the wind off your neck and face.
Technical data
Materials and technologies
Two zone construction
The top is thin and warm so the helmet sits without pressure, and the lower part is denser and blocks wind around the neck and face. That difference is what separates the Finntrail THERMOBALA 9722 from single thickness products.
Anatomical cut
The cut follows the contours of the head and face, so the balaclava does not slip down while riding and does not bunch up under a helmet.
Stretch fabric
The stretch fabric adapts to the shape of your head, so one size is enough and nothing presses during long wear.
How it differs from a plain neck tube
Care
Wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle with a detergent made for synthetic fabrics (Mountval Polar Wash). Skip the softener: it reduces stretch and moisture wicking. Odour, which sinks in fastest around the face and head, is handled by a rinse-cycle freshener (Mountval Silver Freshness). Dry flat, away from heaters and direct sun.
Frequently asked questions
Does the THERMOBALA 9722 fit under a helmet?
Yes. The upper section is thin exactly so the helmet sits without pressure, while the thicker fabric stays around the neck, where the helmet does not reach.
How is it different from the TURBOBALA 9723?
The THERMOBALA 9722 is the warmer one: a warm top plus a dense, wind resistant lower section. The TURBOBALA 9723 is thinner and more universal, better for cool rather than cold weather.
Does it block wind?
The lower section is dense and holds wind off the neck and face. There is no membrane in the balaclava, so this is protection from wind and cold, not from rain.
What sizes does it come in?
One size. The stretch fabric adapts to the shape of your head, so separate sizes are not needed.
How do I wash it so it does not smell?
Wash at 30 °C with a detergent for synthetics, without softener, and dry it flat. Items worn against the face pick up odour fastest, so a rinse-cycle freshener helps.

Membrane waterproofing and breathability
Membrane fabric is usually described using two numbers, often separated by a slash: waterproofness and breathability. The first number indicates waterproofness, the second indicates breathability.
?Waterproofing
This is a sliding scale measured in mm that shows how high a column of water you can suspend over the membrane before it starts to let moisture through.
Waterproof Rating Conditions 0–10,000 mm Light rain, dry snow, light pressure. 11,000–15,000 mm Moderate rain, average snow, light pressure. 16,000–20,000 mm Heavy rain, wet snow, some pressure. 20,000 mm+ Heavy rain, wet snow, high pressure. ?Breathability
This is the amount of moisture by weight that can pass through one square metre of fabric over a period of 24 hours. It is commonly measured in g/m²/24 hrs.
Breathability Rating Level of Breathability 0–5,000 g/m²/24 hrs Low – light exercise. 5,000–15,000 g/m²/24 hrs Medium – medium to high energy activity. 15,000 g/m²/24 hrs+ High – vigorous sustained activity.
