Finntrail RAVEN Black 9725 Balaclava
A premium winter balaclava for snowmobiles and winter sport, with a built-in air deflector and a soft fleece lining. It warms your face, neck and chest and keeps your helmet visor from fogging up. The built-in air deflector (a neoprene mask) directs your warm breath downwards, so the helmet visor does not fog. The upper part is made of dense, stretchy fabric that fits closely, while a soft fleece inner lining adds warmth. A wind-resistant construction across the face, neck and chest holds off the cold at extreme winter temperatures, and the ergonomic cut stays comfortable under a helmet.
Who it is for
Made for deep-winter use outdoors, when you need to protect your face, neck and chest from the cold and keep your helmet visor from fogging.
- •For snowmobile riders on a cold ride.
- •For winter sport enthusiasts on a hard-frost day.
- •For cold trips outdoors with wind and low temperatures.
When it shines
Best on a hard-frost, windy day under a helmet, when both warmth and a clear visor matter: the built-in deflector directs your warm breath downwards, the fleece lining keeps you warm, and the wind-resistant construction covers your face, neck and chest.
Technical specs
Materials & technology
Built-in air deflector
The neoprene mask directs your warm breath downwards instead of onto the helmet visor. This keeps the visor from fogging and your vision clear even in hard frost.
Fleece lining and wind protection
A soft fleece inner lining adds warmth, and a wind-resistant construction covers the face, neck and chest. It is made for extreme winter temperatures, not for cool mid-season weather.
Ergonomic cut under a helmet
The upper part made of dense, stretchy fabric fits closely and does not slip, and the ergonomic cut stays comfortable under a helmet. It suits snowmobile riders and winter sport enthusiasts.
How it differs from a plain mask or scarf
Care
Wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle with a detergent made for synthetic fabrics (Mountval Polar Wash). Skip the softener: it reduces stretch and moisture wicking. Odour, which sinks in fastest around the face and head, is handled by a rinse-cycle freshener (Mountval Silver Freshness). Dry flat, away from heaters and direct sun.
Frequently asked questions
How does it differ from the thin TRANSFORMER balaclava?
RAVEN is a premium deep-winter model: it has a soft fleece lining, a built-in air deflector (a neoprene mask) against visor fogging, and a wind-resistant construction that covers not only the face and neck but the chest as well. TRANSFORMER is a thin mid-season mask without fleece; RAVEN is made for hard cold.
How does the air deflector work?
The built-in neoprene mask directs your warm breath downwards instead of onto the helmet visor. This keeps the visor from fogging and your vision clear even in hard frost.
Does it fit under a helmet?
Yes. The cut is ergonomic and comfortable under a helmet, and the upper part made of dense, stretchy fabric fits closely and does not slip.
What temperature is it for?
For extreme winter temperatures. The fleece lining keeps you warm, and the wind-resistant construction across the face, neck and chest holds warmth on a hard-frost, windy day.
Does it suit both men and women?
Yes. The size is universal (One Size) and the cut is unisex, so it suits both men and women. If unsure, message us and we will help.

Membrane waterproofing and breathability
Membrane fabric is usually described using two numbers, often separated by a slash: waterproofness and breathability. The first number indicates waterproofness, the second indicates breathability.
?Waterproofing
This is a sliding scale measured in mm that shows how high a column of water you can suspend over the membrane before it starts to let moisture through.
Waterproof Rating Conditions 0–10,000 mm Light rain, dry snow, light pressure. 11,000–15,000 mm Moderate rain, average snow, light pressure. 16,000–20,000 mm Heavy rain, wet snow, some pressure. 20,000 mm+ Heavy rain, wet snow, high pressure. ?Breathability
This is the amount of moisture by weight that can pass through one square metre of fabric over a period of 24 hours. It is commonly measured in g/m²/24 hrs.
Breathability Rating Level of Breathability 0–5,000 g/m²/24 hrs Low – light exercise. 5,000–15,000 g/m²/24 hrs Medium – medium to high energy activity. 15,000 g/m²/24 hrs+ High – vigorous sustained activity.
