Which UV clothing should you choose for summer?
Finntrail UV clothing is light summer clothing that covers your skin from the sun when you spend all day by the water or off-road. The range includes T-shirts, trousers, neck and face gaiters and gloves. Most models use UPF 50 fabric, and some also have an insect repellent finish. For most people a long-sleeved T-shirt is the place to start.

- •Anglers who stand in the sun for long on the bank or in a boat, where the sun also reflects off the water.
- •ATV and motorbike riders in summer: a neck gaiter covers your face from sun, wind and dust.
- •Anyone who does not want to reapply sunscreen every couple of hours: the clothing covers your skin all day.
- •Campers and hikers by the water, when mosquitoes and midges give you no peace.
How to choose
Start with where the sun reaches you most. UPF 50 is stated for all models except the VENUS HOOD 6621 and BREEZE 1212 T-shirts: they protect by physically covering the skin, and no UPF value is given for them.

- •Rain. UV clothing is not waterproof, and the WAVE trouser description says so plainly. For rain choose a rain jacket.
- •Warmth. Thin UPF fabric does not keep you warm, so for a cool morning choose a thermal base layer.
- •Your eyes. Clothing does not protect your eyes: polarised glasses cut the glare off the water.
Frequently asked questions
What does UPF 50 mean?
It is a fabric’s rating for protection against ultraviolet rays. The descriptions of the Finntrail WAVE trousers and gloves state that UPF 50 fabric blocks 98% of UV rays. Only the skin the clothing covers is protected.
Where should I start if I am buying UV clothing for the first time?
With a long-sleeved T-shirt, because it covers the largest area of skin. As a second step add a neck gaiter: the back of your neck and your face stay exposed to the sun even when your arms and back are covered.
Does UV clothing protect against insects?
Some of it does. The WAVE T-shirts, VIZARD 6608 and both gaiters, 9803 and 9805, have an insect repellent finish. No such finish is stated for the trousers and gloves, so choose them for sun protection.
Won’t long sleeves be too hot?
No, UV clothing is made precisely for hot days. The light, breathable fabric wicks sweat and dries quickly, so in long sleeves you stay dry and cool, and your skin does not burn.
