What should you wear under your suit for snowmobile riding?
Finntrail thermal clothing for snowmobiling is the two layers under your suit: the base layer next to the skin wicks sweat away while you dig out a stuck sled, and fleece or a light insulated jacket holds in the warmth when you sit back into the wind. For most riders a THERMO S 6304 or MERINO 6209 set plus POLAR 1400 fleece trousers is enough.

- •Cotton T-shirts underneath. Cotton soaks up sweat and holds it against the skin, so wear thermal underwear directly on your body.
- •Several thick fleece layers on top of each other. Squeezed under a suit, they keep you less warm than one layer of the right thickness.

What should I wear under the uninsulated BACKCOUNTRY 3903?
Thermal underwear next to the skin and a fleece layer, for example the POLAR JACKET 1391 and POLAR 1400 trousers. The maker rates the overall from +15 to −20 °C when riding actively, so on a colder day add a MASTER HOOD jacket.
What should I wear next to the skin if I will stay overnight in a cabin or tent?
MERINO 6209 is a good choice: merino wool naturally smells little and regulates temperature, which makes it comfortable for long trips. Dry it in the evening so you can put it on dry in the morning.
When should I take off the mid layer?
Before a long dig or pulling the sled out of the snow, if you can see you are going to sweat. You pack a light MASTER jacket or vest into your backpack, and put it back on before riding while your body is still warm.
How do POLAR 1400 trousers differ from SHERPA 1402?
POLAR 1400 is made of Polartec fleece with Softshell panels on the knees that stand up to abrasion. SHERPA 1402 is made of double-sided Sherpa fleece with a reinforced knee and seat area, an adjustable waist and elastic hems.
Does thermal clothing keep you warm if it gets damp from snow?
The synthetic insulation of the MASTER jackets keeps you warm even when damp, and fleece and thermal underwear dry quickly. Still, a layer that stays wet for long chills you, so it is the suit’s job to keep snow out.
