Which backpack should you take fishing by boat or on the river?
Fishing backpacks keep your phone, documents and spare clothes safe from spray in the boat, rain on the bank and an unexpected slip in the river. All four have welded seams, and TARGET, TRACE and RANGER are rated IP66 and float. For a day by the river the 20 litre TARGET 1716 is enough; for a longer boat trip, RANGER 1708 is the right fit.
How to choose, when they are not the right fit, and FAQ
When they help
- •A boat with water sloshing on the floor and splashing from the oars: welded seams keep moisture from getting through the seam.
- •River anglers who wade with a backpack on: TRACE 1711 has chest straps so the backpack does not sway.
- •Fishing trips of several days with overnight stays: RANGER 1708 has MOLLE webbing, a place for a landing net and a removable document pouch.
How to choose
Choose the volume by what you carry besides your rods: clothes, food, documents.

Frequently asked questions
Will the backpack float if it falls into the river?
According to the description, RANGER 1708, TRACE 1711 and TARGET 1716 float and are rated IP66, so you will have time to grab a backpack that falls in briefly. This rating does not cover long periods under water.
Where should I keep my phone and documents in a boat?
The driest place is a closed waterproof backpack with welded seams. RANGER 1708 has a removable document pouch, while in the smaller TARGET 1716 or TRACE 1711 it is worth putting documents in a separate pouch.
What is the landing net holder on RANGER 1708 for?
It is a dedicated place to attach a landing net so you do not have to carry it in your hand while walking along the river or climbing into a boat. RANGER 1708 also has MOLLE webbing for extra pouches and a key clip.
How do I clean a backpack after fishing?
Rinse it with clean water, especially after fish slime or mud, and dry it open so no moisture or smell stays inside. Odour fresheners and cleaners are in the care section.
