Which jacket should you choose for fishing and ATV riding?
Finntrail jackets fall into four groups according to what they protect you from. Wading jackets are worn with waders, rain jackets keep out downpours and wind, warm jackets are made for winter, and softshell jackets suit cool but dry weather. - •Winter fishing and snowmobiles: warm jackets with a membrane and insulation, some made for temperatures down to −30 °C.

- •A softshell jacket for long rain. It repels drops and wind but is not waterproof: for a rainy day choose a rain jacket.
- •A rain or wading jacket on its own in the cold. It protects from water and wind but has no insulation: underneath it you need a mid layer or a warm jacket.
- •A warm jacket for active movement in autumn. You will soon sweat in it; a membrane jacket with layers underneath is more comfortable, as described in the layering guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a wading jacket and a rain jacket?
A wading jacket is designed to be worn with waders when you stand in water: it has a high collar, adjustable cuffs and waterproof pockets. A rain jacket is made for rain on land, in a boat or on an ATV.
What jacket size should I take if I will wear a warm layer underneath?
Measure your chest, waist and hips wearing that layer, and if you are between two sizes, take the larger one. All measurements are in the size guide, and you can exchange a size that does not fit within 30 days.
Will one jacket be enough all year round?
Usually not. The most practical combination is a membrane rain or wading jacket with a warm layer underneath for spring and autumn, plus a separate warm jacket for winter fishing and snowmobiling.
What does HARD-TEX mean on a Finntrail jacket?
It is the membrane Finntrail uses in most of its jackets: it keeps water out but lets sweat escape. The waterproof rating varies by model, from 10,000 to 20,000 mm.
