Gear Aid Tenacious Tape Hex Patches, black, 4 pcs
Gear Aid Tenacious Tape Hex is a set of four black peel-and-stick patches in a hexagonal shape that close a hole in a jacket, backpack or tent in a minute, with no adhesive, no stitching and no iron. The hex shape is not decoration but a solution: the angled edges let the patch sit along a seam, a zip or a down baffle without trimming it with scissors. Gear Aid makes the black version from 70D nylon, and the adhesive layer holds on nylon, polyester, fleece, vinyl, non-oiled leather and GORE-TEX fabric. After 24 hours the item can be washed. Tenacious Tape Hex patches are the only product in the Finntrail repair products section with no chemistry involved, so they need neither ventilation nor keeping away from flame. Made by Gear Aid and supplied in Lithuania by Kamane MB.

How to use it
1. Clean and dry
Wipe dirt and grease off the area around the tear and let it dry. On damp or greasy fabric a Tenacious Tape Hex patch will not hold.
2. Flatten the fabric
Lay the item on a flat surface and bring the edges of the tear together without overlapping them. That decides whether the patch sits flat.
3. Peel and apply
Peel off the backing without touching the adhesive, and place the patch centred over the tear. The edges should sit at least a centimetre clear of the damage.
4. Press from the middle
Press firmly from the middle outwards so the air escapes. The item can be washed after 24 hours.
What the patches are not for
Tenacious Tape Hex patches cover a hole but do not join the edges of the fabric. This is a surface repair, not a seam.
- •Not for a long tear whose edges need pulling together. Only stitching or adhesive holds that.
- •Not for sealing a seam, because a patch covers an area, not a line.
- •Not for footwear or soles, where abrasion is constant. Gear Aid makes Aquasure+ SR for that.
- •Not for sticking on a wet or dirty surface, or in the cold: the adhesive needs room temperature.
- •Not for an item you need to wash straight away. After applying, wait 24 hours.

Before applying, clean the area and let it dry, because how well a Tenacious Tape Hex patch holds depends on how clean the surface is. Apply at room temperature and press from the middle outwards so no air stays under the patch. The item can be washed after 24 hours. The patches are removable, so a badly placed one can be lifted carefully and reapplied, though the second time it holds less well. Keep unused patches in the packaging itself so the adhesive side stays clean. The patches are made by Gear Aid and supplied in Lithuania by Kamane MB, the official Finntrail dealer.

How many patches are in the pack?
Four black patches. The Gear Aid Hex line comes in two sizes, small at 3.8 × 4.2 cm and large at 6.4 × 7.1 cm; the small one suits down baffles, the large one tents and waders.
Can I wash the item with the patch on?
Yes, 24 hours after applying it. That is how long the adhesive layer needs to bond fully with the fabric. Washed earlier, the patch may start lifting at the edges.
Can the patch be removed?
Yes, Tenacious Tape Hex patches are removable. Peel slowly and from the edge. A reapplied patch holds less well, so it is better to place it accurately the first time.
Will a patch fix waders as well as adhesive?
Not quite. The patch stops the tear from spreading and lets you carry on fishing, but for a lasting, sealed bond in waders Aquasure+ FD adhesive is better. In practice the patch is used in the field and the adhesive at home.
Are the patches flammable or restricted for shipping?
No. Tenacious Tape Hex patches are a nylon and PVC product with no solvents, so no dangerous goods restrictions apply to them, unlike the Aquasure adhesives.
