Gear Aid Aquasure+ SR Shoe Repair Adhesive, 28 g

Gear Aid Aquasure+ SR is a clear urethane adhesive for footwear that bonds a lifting sole, fills a cracked midsole and rebuilds a worn heel or toe cap. This adhesive used to be called Freesole. Aquasure+ SR cures in 8–12 hours and stays flexible, so it holds where a boot flexes with every step. It bonds to leather, suede, rubber, neoprene, canvas and nylon, and the finished repair withstands -29 to +82 °C, so neither frost nor heat breaks it down. One 28 g tube covers several pairs. Aquasure+ SR is made by Gear Aid in the United States and supplied in Lithuania by Kamane MB, the official Finntrail dealer. For other kinds of damage see the repair products section.

    Who it is for

Made for footwear repair when the boot is still good and only one lifting or worn spot is forcing you to replace it.

    • •For wading boots and rubber boots when the sole starts to lift.
    • •For hiking boots when the midsole cracks or the heel corner wears down.
    • •For reinforcing the toe cap in advance, before rocks and roots wear it through.
    • •For work footwear, including steel-toe boots; see the full range in the shoes section.

    When to use it

Use it when you can see the sole starting to separate, not when it is already flapping. While the gap is narrow the adhesive reaches the whole split and the bond comes out strong. Aquasure+ SR also works preventively: a thin layer on the toe cap or heel corner delays wear for a whole season.

    Which materials it suits

The list below comes from the materials Gear Aid declares. We do not add anything the manufacturer does not state.

Leather Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Suede Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Rubber Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Neoprene Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Canvas Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Nylon Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Heavily greased leather Check first. The grease has to be cleaned off or the adhesive will not bond. Test on a hidden area
Wool felt lining Not suitable. The adhesive is for outer surfaces, not the lining
Polyethylene and polypropylene Not suitable. The manufacturer does not list these plastics

    How to use it

    1. Clean and dry

Wipe dirt, sand and grease off the spot you are bonding and let it dry completely. On a damp or greasy surface Aquasure+ SR will not stick.

    2. Work it into the split

Open the lifting area and work the adhesive inside, not just along the edge. To rebuild a toe cap or heel, apply thin layers and shape them with a stick or brush.

    3. Clamp and wipe off the excess

Clamp the joint with a clip or a rubber band and wipe away any squeezed-out adhesive straight away, while it is still soft.

    4. Leave it to cure overnight

Leave the boot flat and undisturbed for 8–12 hours at 15–38 °C. For a deep crack, add a second layer once the first has cured.

    What it is not for

Aquasure+ SR does not rebuild the structure of a boot and does not replace stitching. The adhesive joins surfaces, but it will not carry the load a seam is supposed to carry.

    • •It will not help when the entire sole has separated from toe to heel. That boot needs a cobbler.
    • •It is not for wader fabric or seams; Gear Aid makes Aquasure+ FD for that.
    • •It is not for a membrane wetting out over a wide area, because that is a worn finish, not a hole.
    • •It is not for a repair you need finished within the hour. The minimum cure time is 8 hours.
    • •It is not for cold or dry conditions: it needs 15–38 °C and more than 40 % relative humidity.

How it differs from general purpose glue

General purpose glue from a hardware shop

    • Cures hard and cracks
    • Not designed for constant flexing
    • No water resistance promised
    • Cannot build up a toe cap

    Aquasure+ SR

    • Stays flexible once cured
    • Designed for a boot that flexes every step
    • Water and abrasion resistant
    • Builds up in layers, rebuilds a toe cap

Good to know about safety and storage

Aquasure+ SR is a solvent-based urethane adhesive and therefore flammable. Work in a ventilated space, away from open flame and sparks, keep it off your eyes and skin, and store it out of reach of children. The exact hazard labelling is on the tube itself and in the manufacturer safety data sheet. Gear Aid recommends storing an unopened tube in a bag in the freezer, which keeps it liquid longer. Use an opened tube within a few repairs, because the remainder cures inside. The product is made by Gear Aid in the USA and supplied in Lithuania by Kamane MB.

    Frequently asked questions

Is Aquasure+ SR the same as Freesole?

Yes. Gear Aid renamed Freesole to Aquasure+ SR; the formula and the purpose stayed the same. If you see the old Freesole name anywhere, it refers to the same shoe repair product.

Can I bond a completely detached sole with it?

No, that needs a cobbler. Aquasure+ SR is for local repairs: a lifting sole edge, a cracked midsole, a worn heel or toe cap. When the sole has separated along its whole length, adhesive alone will not hold.

How long does it take to cure?

Between 8 and 12 hours. Keep the boot flat and undisturbed until the adhesive has fully cured. For a deep crack the manufacturer suggests a second layer once the first has cured.

    Does it suit waders?

For wader fabric and seams, Aquasure+ FD is the better choice. Aquasure+ SR is built for footwear and the loads it takes, so on textile its advantages stay unused.

How do I store the leftover adhesive?

Gear Aid recommends storing an unopened tube in a bag in the freezer. An opened tube cures from the moisture in the air, so it is worth using it across a few repairs rather than keeping it for a year.

What are the return and warranty terms?

You can return an unopened tube within 30 days. Finntrail products carry a 24 month warranty, and delivery to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is free, with a tracking number.
