Gear Aid Aquasure+ FD Repair Kit, 7 g adhesive and two patches
The Gear Aid Aquasure+ FD Repair Kit is a pocket-sized box holding 7 g of adhesive, two 7.6 cm round Tenacious Tape patches, a brush and instructions, so waders or a dry suit can be fixed on the spot without a workshop. The difference from a plain tube of adhesive is that the kit already holds everything a patch repair needs: adhesive, two patches and a brush for an even layer. The kit adhesive bonds to neoprene, rubber, nylon, GORE-TEX fabric, canvas and vinyl or PVC, and the bond cures in 8–12 hours. The patches are made of PVC and nylon, so they hold on technical fabrics too. The kit is made by Gear Aid (formerly McNett) and supplied in Lithuania by Kamane MB, the official Finntrail dealer. More repair items are in the repair products section.
Who it is for
Made for one serious repair on a trip or at home, when you need not only adhesive but also a patch and a brush.
When to use it
Use it when the damage is bigger than a pinhole and adhesive alone is not enough. A patch spreads the load over a wider area, so the fabric stops tearing further from the same point. Out on the water the kit lets you stop the problem immediately, and you finish the repair properly in the evening, when the adhesive gets its 8 hours undisturbed.
Technical data
Which materials it suits
The list below comes from the materials Gear Aid declares. We do not add anything the manufacturer does not state.
How to use it
1. Clean and dry
Wipe dirt and salt off the area to be repaired and let it dry completely. On a damp surface the adhesive will not bond and the patch will lift.
2. Brush on the adhesive
Brush a thin layer of Aquasure+ FD over the tear and about a centimetre around it. Wait about 30 minutes until the layer starts to firm up.
3. Apply the patch and press out the air
Place the patch centred over the tear and press from the middle outwards so no air bubbles stay under it. Coat the edges with a little more adhesive.
4. Leave it to cure flat
Lay the item flat at 15–38 °C and leave it for 8–12 hours. Do not use the item while the bond is still soft.
What the kit is not for
The Aquasure+ FD Repair Kit is for spot repairs, not for refreshing a whole garment. Two patches cover one or two points of damage, not a fully worn seat panel.
- •It will not help when waders wet out over a wide area. That is a worn water-repellent finish, not a hole.
- •It is not for boot soles; Gear Aid makes Aquasure+ SR for that.
- •It is not for a repair you need finished within an hour. The minimum cure time is 8 hours.
- •It is not for cold or dry conditions: it needs 15–38 °C and more than 40 % relative humidity.
- •It is not for children to use unsupervised; the adhesive is flammable and irritates skin and eyes.
How it differs from a plain tube
Good to know about safety and storage
The adhesive in the kit is the same Aquasure+ FD, so it is flammable: the manufacturer safety data sheet lists UN 1133, ADR class 3, packing group II and hazard statement H226. It contains toluene. Work in a ventilated space, away from flame and sparks, and keep it off your eyes and skin. Store an unopened kit in a cool place out of reach of children. Use an opened adhesive tube within a few repairs, because the remainder cures inside. Keep the patches in the box itself so their adhesive side stays clean.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is in the box?
Aquasure+ FD adhesive 7 g, two 7.6 cm round Tenacious Tape patches, one clear and one black, a brush for spreading the adhesive and the manufacturer instructions. The box is light and fits a backpack pocket.
Can I repair GORE-TEX fabric with it?
Yes. Gear Aid lists GORE-TEX fabric specifically for this kit, and not for the separate 28 g tube of adhesive. Still test on a hidden area first, because garment constructions differ.
How long does the bond take to cure?
Between 8 and 12 hours. Lay the item flat and leave it undisturbed. A Gear Aid cure accelerator shortens this to about 2 hours, but the accelerator is not in the Finntrail range.
Is a patch enough without the adhesive?
On a dry surface and a small tear the patch holds on its own, but a long-lasting bond comes from adhesive under the patch and around its edges. That is why the kit contains both.
How does it differ from buying the adhesive separately?
The separate tube holds 28 g, four times more than the kit, but it comes with no patches and no brush. The kit is made to be carried and to handle one more serious repair; the tube suits many small ones.
What are the return and warranty terms?
You can return an unopened kit within 30 days. Finntrail products carry a 24 month warranty, and delivery to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is free, with a tracking number.
