Gear Aid Aquasure+ FD Repair Adhesive, 28 g

Gear Aid Aquasure+ FD is a clear polyurethane repair adhesive in a 28 g tube for sealing holes, tears and leaking seams in waders, neoprene gear and other outdoor equipment. Once cured, Aquasure+ FD turns into a flexible, abrasion-resistant rubber, so the bond holds even where the fabric keeps flexing. The adhesive bonds to neoprene, rubber, nylon, canvas and vinyl, and it cures in 8–12 hours. One tube fixes several different spots, so expensive gear does not go in the bin because of a single tear. Aquasure+ FD is made by Gear Aid (formerly McNett) and distributed in Lithuania by Kamane MB, the official Finntrail dealer. This is a repair product, not a care product: for washing and reproofing see impregnation and protection products.

    Who it is for

Made for repairing holes, tears and seams when you need a permanent, flexible bond rather than a temporary patch.

    • •For waders and neoprene gear, when a pinhole or a tear appears in the leg.
    • •For patching dry suits, jackets and inflatables.
    • •For sealing seams on nylon and vinyl, when water seeps through the stitching rather than the fabric.
    • •Together with a patch when the hole is larger than a fingernail; patches are in the repair products section.

    When to use it

Use it when your gear already leaks or you can see a tear and you want the repair to last a season, not a weekend. Aquasure+ FD works where adhesive tape lifts quickly: once cured it stays flexible and does not crack along fold lines. Repair early, because moisture coming through a tear quickly ruins the insulating liner.

    Which materials it suits

The list below comes from the materials Gear Aid declares. We do not add anything the manufacturer does not state.

Neoprene Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Rubber Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Nylon Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Canvas Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Vinyl Suitable. Declared by the manufacturer
Membrane fabric Check first. Gear Aid lists GORE-TEX fabric for the Aquasure+ FD Repair Kit, but not for this tube. Test on a hidden area
Oiled leather Not suitable. Oils stop the adhesive from bonding
Polyethylene and polypropylene Not suitable. The manufacturer does not list these plastics

    How to use it

    1. Prepare the area

Wipe off dirt, salt and grease, then let the area dry completely. The preparation decides whether the bond holds; on a damp or greasy surface Aquasure+ FD will not stick.

    2. Apply a thin layer

Apply a thin layer of Aquasure+ FD covering the tear and about a centimetre around it. A thick layer cures more slowly and does not hold any better.

    3. Add a patch for a bigger hole

If the hole is larger than a fingernail, add a patch and coat its edges. Press out the air bubbles so no voids are left under the patch.

    4. Leave it to cure flat

Lay the item flat at 15–38 °C and leave it for 8–12 hours. Do not use the item while the bond is still soft.

    What it is not for

Aquasure+ FD does not restore membrane performance and does not renew the water-repellent finish. The adhesive seals one specific spot, not the whole garment.

    • •It will not help when waders wet out over a wide area. That is a worn DWR finish, not a hole, and it needs a reproofer.
    • •It is not for boot soles or heels; Gear Aid makes Aquasure+ SR for that.
    • •It is not for a repair you need finished within an hour. The minimum cure time is 8 hours.
    • •It is not for cold or dry conditions: it needs 15–38 °C and more than 40 % relative humidity.
    • •It is not for children to use unsupervised; the product is flammable and irritates skin and eyes.

How it differs from an adhesive patch

    Adhesive patch or tape

    • Repair in a minute, no curing
    • Edges lift over time
    • Does not seal seams
    • Visible on the fabric

    Aquasure+ FD

    • Permanent, flexible bond
    • Stays flexible rubber once cured
    • Seals seams as well
    • Clear and almost invisible once cured

Good to know about safety and storage

Aquasure+ FD is a flammable product: the manufacturer safety data sheet assigns it UN 1133, ADR class 3, packing group II, with hazard statement H226. It contains toluene. Work in a ventilated space, away from open flame and sparks, and keep it off your skin and out of your eyes. Gear Aid recommends storing an unopened tube in a bag in the freezer, which keeps it liquid longer. Use an opened tube within a few sessions, because the remainder cures inside. Aquasure+ FD is made by Gear Aid in the United States and supplied in Lithuania by Kamane MB.

    Frequently asked questions

What can I repair with this adhesive?

Waders, neoprene gear, dry suits, jackets and inflatables. Gear Aid states that Aquasure+ FD bonds to neoprene, rubber, nylon, canvas and vinyl. For membrane fabric, test on a hidden area first.

How long does Aquasure+ FD take to cure?

Between 8 and 12 hours at room temperature. Lay the item flat and leave it undisturbed until the bond has fully cured. A Gear Aid cure accelerator shortens this to about 2 hours, but the accelerator is not in the Finntrail range.

    Will the repaired spot leak?

Applied correctly and fully cured, Aquasure+ FD forms a sealed, water-resistant bond. Preparation matters most: the area must be completely clean, dry and free of grease, otherwise the adhesive will not bond and the repair will leak.

Is this a Nikwax or Mountval product?

No. Aquasure+ FD is made by Gear Aid, formerly McNett. It is a repair adhesive. The Nikwax and Mountval items in the Finntrail range are care chemistry, detergents and reproofers, which do not repair holes.

Is the adhesive flammable and how should I store it?

Yes, Aquasure+ FD is flammable, UN 1133, hazard statement H226, and it contains toluene. Keep it away from flame and heat and out of reach of children. Gear Aid recommends storing an unopened tube in a bag in the freezer.

What are the return and warranty terms?

You can return an unopened tube within 30 days. Finntrail products carry a 24 month warranty, and delivery to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is free, with a tracking number.
