Finntrail GREENWOOD Khaki 5224 Wading Boots

Wading boots with a felt sole: they hold where rubber slips, on wet, algae covered river stones. The Finntrail GREENWOOD Khaki 5224 boots are built for standing in water and walking on a slippery bottom. The felt sole grips the surface of the stone instead of sliding off it, the high shaft supports the ankle and the side drainage ports let water out so the boot does not get heavy. Toe and heel protection take the hits against rocks, the special insoles soften every step, and the heel loop with nylon laces lets you get them on fast and cinch them tight.

    Who they are for

Made for wading with waders in rivers and along lakes, where the bottom is slippery and every step has to be solid.

    • •Fishing while wading a river or working the shoreline.
    • •Moving over wet stones and an uneven bottom.
    • •Long days outdoors when the boot has to stay comfortable and stable.

    When they shine

Best in a river with a rocky or algae covered bottom: a felt sole works exactly where a rubber one starts to slide. For mud and ice felt is the wrong choice, and we have rubber and mud-free soled models for that.

    Materials & technology

    Felt sole

Felt presses into the surface of a wet stone and holds where a rubber sole starts to slide. This is the main reason to choose this model.

    Toe and heel protection

Reinforced zones take the hits against rocks and branches, so the foot stays protected and the boot does not fail at the critical points.

    High shaft

The tall build fixes the ankle and gives support when you stand in current or climb over an uneven bottom.

    Special insoles

The insoles absorb impact better and reduce the load on the foot, so a full day out does not wear your legs down.

    Drainage system

Side ports quickly release water that got inside, the boot does not get heavy and dries faster. The heel loop and nylon laces let you get them on fast and cinch them tight.

How they differ from rubber soled boots

    Rubber sole

    • Versatile, but slides on algae covered stone
    • Better on mud and dry ground
    • No need to wait for it to dry
    • Works both on the trail and in the water

    GREENWOOD 5224, felt

    • Holds on wet, algae covered stones
    • Built for wading, not for mud trails
    • Dries slower, so dry it separately
    • Forms a set together with waders

    Care

After a trip rinse the mud off with clean water, especially the tread and the seams. Once dry, spray the boots with an impregnator (Mountval Protector) so water beads off again. Dry at room temperature or in a boot dryer on low, not near a radiator: heat damages the membrane and the glue. Odour inside is handled by a spray (Mountval Odour Absorber).

    Frequently asked questions

Why is a felt sole better than rubber?

Felt clings to a wet, algae covered stone and stops the foot from sliding. A rubber sole slips there. In return rubber holds better on mud, grass and a dry trail, so choose by where you will be standing.

    Are the boots waterproof?

These are wading boots, worn over the neoprene sock of your waders, so it is the waders that keep you dry, not the boot. Any water that gets inside drains out through the side ports.

What size should I take if I wear them with waders?

Take wading boots larger than your everyday size, because the neoprene sock and a warm sock stay inside. Tell us your usual size and your wader model and we will pick the right one.

Can I wear them without waders?

You can, but the boot is not sealed and the inside will get wet. For that kind of use a rubber soled model or a membrane hiking boot suits better.

How do I care for them so they last?

Rinse the mud off with clean water and spray the dry boots with an impregnator (Mountval Protector). Odour inside is handled by a spray (Mountval Odour Absorber); dry at room temperature, not near a radiator.
