Nikwax TECH WASH, 300 ml
A technical wash for membrane (waterproof, breathable) clothing: it cleans off dirt and old detergent residue, revives water repellency and breathability, and does not damage the membrane. Ordinary detergents leave water-attracting residues. They suppress breathability, weaken water repellency (DWR) and can harm the membrane. TECH WASH leaves no such residues: it washes off dirt and traces of old detergent and revives the DWR finish and breathability. It is water-based, PFC-free, contains no bleach and no added scent, and the bottle is made of recycled plastic. Capacity is 300 ml. Good to know: it does not add waterproofing on its own, that is the job of the TX.Direct proofer.

How to use
Machine wash
Remove old detergent residue from the detergent drawer. Load no more than 2 garments. Add 100–150 ml depending on water hardness. Choose a 30 °C synthetics programme with a slow spin. Air dry or tumble dry on low heat.
Hand wash
Put on gloves. Immerse the garment in about 7.5 l of warm water. Add 100–150 ml of the wash and stir. Rinse three times in clean water. Air dry or dry on low heat.
How it differs from ordinary detergent
Good to know
PFC-free, no bleach and no optical brighteners, no added scent. It is water-based, non-flammable and safe to use in a washing machine. The bottle is made of recycled plastic. After proofing, water repellency usually lasts about 5–6 washes. It does not add waterproofing on its own: that is the job of the TX.Direct proofer.
Frequently asked questions
Does it suit Gore-Tex and other membranes?
Yes. It is made for membrane clothing: Gore-Tex, HARD-TEX, Windstopper and similar, as well as Finntrail membrane garments. It washes off dirt and old residues and does not damage the membrane.
Does it make a garment waterproof?
Not directly. TECH WASH only cleans and revives the existing water repellency and breathability. New waterproofing comes from the TX.Direct proofer. It is best to wash first with TECH WASH, then proof.
Why not use ordinary detergent?
Ordinary detergents leave water-attracting residues. They suppress breathability, weaken water repellency and can harm the membrane. TECH WASH leaves no such residues.
How much should I pour in?
Use 100–150 ml per wash depending on water hardness. In the machine, load no more than 2 garments and run a 30 °C synthetics programme with a slow spin.
