What should a woman wear under waders and a winter suit?
Finntrail women’s thermal clothing is made up of two layers: a base layer next to the skin that wicks sweat away, and fleece that holds in warmth under a jacket or waders. The POLAR W 1396 jacket is cut for women; the specifications of the other models do not state a gender specific cut. For most fishing and ATV days, THERMO S 6304 with POLAR W 1396 works well.

- •If you are only looking for a women’s cut. In this group POLAR W 1396 has one; check the size of the other models against the size guide.
- •As an outer layer in the rain. Fleece and thermal underwear are not water resistant; wear a membrane jacket over them.
- •Summer heat. The maker’s upper limit for these models is +10 to +15 °C, and for a sunny day on the water UV protection is the right choice.
Frequently asked questions
Does a woman need women’s thermal underwear?
What matters most is that the base layer fits close to the body without squeezing. All three sets, MERINO 6209, THERMO S 6304 and ALL SEASON 6206, have an anatomical cut, and only the POLAR W 1396 jacket is marked as a women’s cut in its specification.
Merino or synthetics for ice fishing?
The maker rates MERINO 6209 and THERMO S 6304 down to −25 °C. Merino wool naturally builds up less odour and is gentle on sensitive skin, while THERMO S 6304 is polyester with a microfleece inside.
What should I wear under waders in late autumn?
THERMO S 6304 or ALL SEASON 6206 next to the skin, and POLAR 1400 or SHERPA 1402 fleece trousers over them. The Softshell panels at the knees of POLAR 1400 add resistance to abrasion and wind.
How do I care for merino and synthetic base layers?
Do not use fabric softener on either. Wash the synthetic THERMO S 6304 and ALL SEASON 6206 at no more than 30 °C, and MERINO 6209 on a wool cycle, then dry it flat.
