TOURISM AND LEISURE

How should you dress for a hike, foraging or camping?

The Finntrail tourism and leisure collection brings together clothing and footwear for hiking, picking mushrooms and berries, camping and road trips into nature. Here you will find rain and softshell jackets, trousers, hoodies, three types of boots, thermal underwear, UV clothing for summer and backpacks. To start with, membrane hiking boots and a light rain jacket that fits in a backpack are enough for most people.

How to choose, who it is not for, and FAQ

    Who it is for

    • •A day hike along forest trails, when the grass is wet with dew in the morning and rain may come in the afternoon.
    • •Mushroom and berry pickers who spend hours walking over wet moss, stumps and boggy ground.
    • •Camping by a lake or river: by day the sun beats down and mosquitoes bite, and in the evening by the campfire it cools down quickly.
    • •A road trip into nature, when one backpack has to hold clothes for sun, rain and a cool evening.

    How to choose

Start with the season and how many hours you will be outdoors. In the table the collection is grouped by what you do in nature, not by type of garment.

What this collection is not for

    • •Wading in a river. Hiking boots and rain trousers do not keep out water that reaches the top of the boot or the trouser hem, so for fords you need waders with wading boots.
    • •ATV riding through mud. The tougher clothing made for that is gathered in the ATV collection.
    • •Long days of ice fishing. There are warm boots and suits here, but the full range for winter anglers is in the winter fishing clothing collection.
    • •Sitting right next to the campfire in a membrane jacket. Sparks burn holes in membrane fabric, so keep your distance from the fire.

    Frequently asked questions

What should I wear on an autumn hike when the weather changes every hour?

Dress in layers: thermal underwear next to the skin, a hoodie or softshell jacket for warmth and a membrane rain jacket on top. When you warm up, take off the mid layer so you do not sweat. More in the layering guide.

What clothing should I take for a weekend camping by a lake?

For the day take long-sleeved UV T-shirts, for the evening a hoodie or a second thermal layer, and for rain a light membrane jacket. Pack your clothes in a waterproof backpack, such as TRACE 1711, so they stay dry in the tent and in the boat.

What should I put in the car boot when heading out into nature?

Pack a second pair of boots and rain gear: DECK 7518 or OUTLANDER 7516 rubber boots for wet meadows, a rain jacket and trousers. On the way home keep muddy boots and clothes separate, and the inside of the car stays clean.

Does the collection include clothing for women?

Yes: the SIERRA 3451 and OUTDOOR W 1311 rain jackets, the OUTDOOR W 1312 rain trousers and the POLAR W 1396 thermal jacket are made for women. You will find the full women’s range in the women’s clothing collection.
